How To Earn Income Online - A Beginners Guide To Affiliate Marketing

Does making money on the web sound good to you? If you are a true beginner with little knowledge of the internet markets you have quite a bit to learn. But it’s interesting and if you follow a good plan it can be VERY lucrative.

Here’s what I see when I look at internet marketing and I’ll bet it’s similar to you.

First - there is no boss. You are the boss! You set your hours and work when you want. This is commonly worked at right in the home and you can dress any way you want.

Sometimes I work down at the coffee shop a few blocks from home just because it’s kind of fun. I see other people, rushing around, and I see the business meetings with real estate people or insurance types and I am SO thankful I don’t have to meet a schedule.

Second - it also costs very little to do this. It will cost $100 to $200 dollars to get a good start…BUT…if you follow a good plan, and don’t allow distractions, you can earn that back the first month.

Third - it’s easy to learn internet marketing if you have the basics ready.

The basics are a computer with a good internet connection. You do have to be able to write and read, and do basic arithmetic. That describes a lot of us.

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a little web site set up that spun off some income on a daily, weekly and monthly basis? That is just how most affiliate marketers make their money.

Affiliate marketing is the segment of internet marketing in which “affiliates” (that would be you) sell products for the people who produce them and get a commission for doing so.

Unlike offline commission endeavors the commissions are lots higher in percentage terms than they typically are offline, like at cars sales or real estate sales.

There’s a bundle of money to be made and it runs 24/7 year around.

This business should be approached in three stages. The first stage will be getting acclimated to the new world you’ll be in.

First - In this stage, don’t buy anything. It would probably be a mistake.

I strongly recommend that you spend a few weeks just getting used to the terms and expressions and some of the more technical aspects of online marketing, such as setting up your first website. In spite of what you hear, it is necessary to have your first site. The web site is where you put your offer!

At first just put anything you want on your site. Get used to putting words and pictures on it. Don’t be shy. No one will see it. In this stage you’ll learn a LOT.

You can go to Squidoo and have your first, rudimentary site set up that day. For free! And it includes the domain name at no extra charge.

Second - This is when you want to start familiarizing yourself with the different types of offers that are out there available for you to sell. The world is your playground and you should see this as fun. If it doesn’t seem interesting and fun to you, this may not be for you.

There are all kinds of offers to sell on the web, but the highest popularity offers are the ones that solve a genuine problem for the prospective buyer. Here’s some examples…

A good acne cure for a person who wants to get rid of acne is a great example.

An ebook with a golf “slice” solution for the golfer who hates his stubborn slice.

A program showing how to make money online for people who want to earn money and work at home.

Third - After getting used to the terminology and the “lay-of-the-land” and becoming familiar with the various offers available we move to the third stage of learning. And that stage is “How To Drive Traffic To Your Offer.” This is the real work and what causes it all to happen.

This is the reason you don’t start out getting rich. You start out slowly, learning how to do it, while sending traffic to your offers. At first the traffic you get may not be so good, but then it gets better and you’ll be on your way.

The ways of generating traffic are as varied as the offers themselves.

As you are first showing your offers to your traffic a sale will happen and your whole vision of this thing will change, and change permanently.

Because, up until the first sale, this is all a study in methodology and not the practical harvesting of cash that you want it to be.

But you CAN get there as long as you WANT to. As LONG as you do it in these three stages AND you keep this timeless formula in mind. Offer + Traffic = Sales.

Riley West’s Famous Blog has ONE PAGE where you can see all three stages! It’s at Free Affiliate Marketing Resources. Go there now but remember that you want to avoid information overload! You are looking for a distilled explanation and a good plan. Remember the three stages of learning! Remember the formula… Offer + Traffic = Sales. Here is a link to free targeted traffic generation tips.

Affiliate Marketing With Squidoo - Five Great Reasons

December 9th, 2009

Copyright (c) 2009 Riley West

Affiliate marketers all need to have certain things. I consider it essential to have a web page where you can put your content and offers.

Then you can get down to driving traffic to your site and making sales.

Still, the beginning affiliate marketer and perhaps even some intermediates, would like it to be low priced and more straightforward than the typical setup.

Take as an example the mass of web pages called Squidoo.

It’s really just another website except for it’s size and variety of content. It’s VERY well known at Google.

By the end of 2009 there were nearly a million individual pages on this huge website and those pages are called “lenses” by the “Squids.”

Here are 5 good reasons to use Squidoo as an affiliate marketer.

The first and best reason is your cost for the hosting space. It’s zero.

The second reason is the price for registering a domain name. It’s zero too!

Squidoo loks good because it’s practically effortless, AND it’s very low cost, especially when compared to the typical cost of hosting and domain at about $100 to $130 per year.

That doesn’t sound like much, and it isn’t if your site is making money or if you just have plenty of it. But for affiliates who are just starting and a lot of intermediates too, it’s just perfect.

The third reason, and one of big importance to affiliates, is that it is relatively easy to get indexed by Google for your lens. Really it’s a web page. But Google seems to like them.

If you pick your domain name with a keyword relevant to your sites content, that you can easily rank for, and you put it at the beginning of your domain name, you will be started off really well.

Doing a good job optimizing your page (lens) for your relevant keyword, is the best way to get your site to come up on the search results page in Google. And Page One of Google for almost ANY keyword will result in some good traffic.

The fourth reason to use Squidoo is that there is on site help. There is lots of assistance.

This would have really helped me when I was getting started because it seemed like, for me, everything new wasn’t just new…it seemed wierd…alien even. I didn’t “get it.”

Squdoo helps you in a dozen ways and you can see for yourself by just going there and looking around.

In addition, there is a forum where you can go and ask questions and get answers. And maybe later you will even answer some questions.

The fifth reason to use these pages (lenses) is because they work!

By work I mean that you can make them look like a great web page. You can also get them to have a good bit of traffic. And you can sell directly from them.

If you want a landing page, here it is!

And that’s not all. You will learn a lot!

Many of the stumbling blocks a typical newcomer or even intermediate affiliate marketer will run into are completely eliminated by this alternative. The first that comes to mind is the FREE hosting and domain name.

Go there and get your first lens. Start fooling around with it. Learn how to do a few of the things you need to get a halfway decent site up. There’s going to be plenty of assistance if you get stuck.

In a couple to three weeks you could have an affiliate site up, indexed, and getting traffic, and making sales.

Watch out because IF you do this, the next thing that will happen is that you will get a sale. A sale that didn’t cost you anything but your time and effort.

Only now you’ll know how to repeat it and increase your income.

#1 - The Google’s rules too apply to other networks, but partially.

The rules for ranking on Google are not strictly necessary if you are trying to work with Yahoo and MSN, but you cannot forget them.
