Internet marketing is seen as a get rich quick scheme by many newbie marketers because of the ease and convenience linked to the world-wide-web. This is however misleading, as the success that you achieve whether online or off line, is directly linked to what you put in.

Work very hard on your business model, ignore the negatives comments, and success will be yours. It is advisable to take heed of the following misconceptions.

Cash will flow in very quickly - Internet marketing takes a substantial amount of work. Spend lots of time learning the ropes, but do expect the odd failure along the way. Your success is entirely up to you and you usually reap what you sow.

* You will not make any money - Life is an issue of balance, and your input towards any business venture, will determine the output. The supreme goal for internet marketing success will only be reached by consistently applying yourself in a disciplined manner. If you are prepared to learn and accept the occasional failure whilst learning from your mistakes and apply that knowledge, the money will come.

All people are suited for internet marketing - If you adopt the attitude of telling yourself there is nothing to this, you are already starting of on the wrong footing. A venture such as this takes a lot of discipline and you must be willing to learn. Have an open mind get rid of your pre-conceived ideas and be willing to embrace new thoughts as they come up.

* It is too difficult - Have you ever taken a deep look within your self to discover where the true potential lies? Is there a potential internet marketing guru waiting to come out? What are the gaps within the marketplace that has not been fulfilled yet? The answers to these questions are only the beginnings of your ability to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

* It will only require a few hours work a day - This is possible but in the beginning, long hours are not unheard of. You must be prepared to spend up to 18 hour days in front of your computer. The compensating factor however is that at some point in the future you will be able to automate most of your efforts.

* It takes many years to learn online business - This is not true and if you apply yourself in a diligent and consistent manner, your learning can be accelerated without compromising on the quality. Study hard, read newsletters and articles, join online forums and listen to those who are already successful within the internet marketing field.

Internet marketing is a real and authentic business venture, but be prepared for the many sceptics and other people who will look at you in a funny way.

They react in this manner because of not seeing you leave your house at 8 in the morning and returning at 6 every evening. Remind them that you are just as exhausted from working and researching all day as they are from slogging in the workplace or office all day. If you work on your business model and ignore the misconceptions, then you will succeed.

Internet Marketing - Fact or Fiction Pt. IV

January 17th, 2010

In the past three sections of this article I attempted to discuss some basics of registering a domain, hosting etc. In this section I want to talk about the designing of your website; the problems you may face and the mistakes you need to avoid.

In Part III I briefly touched upon the different types of websites you might encounter during your travels and as you think about creating your own online business. I think I have a better way of describing these types:

1. Brochure Type - physicians, lawyers, chiropractors, dentists

2. Information Type - i.e. wikipedia

3. Sales - Amazon, BestBuy 4. A Combination of 1-3

Once you’ve thought a bit about which type you are going to create or have created, you need to know about a couple of errors to avoid whether you are doing the design yourself or just supervising someone else.

Some of the mistakes you need to avoid are:

1. Complicated Design - keep it simple stupid (KISS) is appropriate for web design as much as anything else.

2. Complicated Navigation- make sure that the navigation throughout your site works for your visitor and not just the designer. Test, test and then test again.

3. Custom Fonts - Avoid unusual, customized fonts. First of all, they may notr display on all computers the same way. Secondly, they may be hard to read and cause difficulty for your visitor causing them to hit the ‘X’ button.

4. Content - Unrelated to the type of website, you need to make sure that your content remains fresh and targeted. Return visitors want something new and different even if they’ve been back numerous times before. They want the latest gadget, the latest news and the latest information.

5. Above the Fold - Keep the most critical information on the top of the page so that your visitor won’t have to scroll from the top to bottom or from the right to left.

As you are thinking and starting to develop your website, it is always a good idea to check out the competition. Using Google, just type in your keywords (words you think your visitors would use to find the website they need)and take a quick look aat your competition’s sites. Never plagerize. Never copy. Just learn and then use the information to create your own, personalized, branded website.

Keep in mind that what you create now will brand your new company now and for the future.

In Part V, we’ll dive into some detail on getting traffic to your new business, undoubtedly the most critical aspect of being successful on the web.

Begin Your Internet Marketing Business Well

January 12th, 2010

Many people like the idea of starting up an online business, but sadly many of them fail within the first year. It’s not that they haven’t given it their all, or that they don’t have the talent. More often than not it is because they just don’t know what to do.

If you’re starting an online marketing business, there are a few tools you’ll need to have in your kit to ensure that your business won’t go belly-up before you can start making a profit.

What you need initially is to recognize your level of expertise in the various aspects of internet marketing. The great thing about this field is that you don’t have to be good at every aspect of IM to make a go of it in the business.

You can easily outsource the parts of a job that lie outside your area of expertise, to another provider who is more skilled at that particular task. Realizing your limitations and acknowledging when you need to delegate will keep you from getting out of your depth, becoming stressed and frustrated, and possibly delivering projects that do not meet your expectations or those of your clients.

Once you’ve done a thorough self-assessment, you can then work on the basic skills you need to turn your business into a seven-figure operation.

It will be necessary for you to acquire some basic marketing, writing and web skills. You should find out how those in the top end of town think, and learn how to think like them.

You’ll also need to learn how to build recurring income, a steady flow of cash to your business from regular customers — and most of all, you’ll need to learn how to make a Mafia offer, that is an offer your client can’t refuse.

One of the best ways to ensure the success of your Internet based business is to find a reputable mentor who can help guide you through the early stages of getting your business up and running. There are good mentors out there — but there are also some shady operators.

Make sure you check your mentor out before you fork out hundreds of dollars for advice. There are no secrets on the internet - so if your chosen mentor is disreputable or unqualified this will be sure to have been made public by someone.

Having your Internet business fizzle out can leave you angry, embittered, and worst of all, broke. By learning the ropes of IM from an expert, you can ensure your success and the future prosperity of your marketing business.

Get more free advice on internet marketing and discover how easy it is to set up your own online business.

Internet Marketing - The Truth - Part I

January 12th, 2010

If you’re new to internet marketing or thinking about getting involved because you think this is an easy way to make a ton of money….think again.

In this short article, and possible some followup articles, we’ll walk the walk and provide you with some ideas of what the truth is behind the hype.

Now, before I begin, I don’t want anyone to misinterpret the information contained within this article or even the title. There truthfully is money to be made online but it is just not as easy as it is portrayed by those emails you find in your inbox on a daily basis.

If you’re looking to start a new online business, or have one that just isn’t going the way you want, you need to think about the next period of time ( I would think 6 months to a year) as a form of post-graudate education. There is no business I can think of that allows you to start making money without some form of investment. If you’re starting a franchised ‘brick and mortar’ business, there is not only a huge capital investment but most franchisers demand you attend courses to learn the business.

One of the interesting aspects of an internet business is the low cost of capitalization. That is what most people find attractive about this market. But there really is no such thing as something for nothing. Instead of investing a ton of money as you would if you were starting any other type of ‘brick and mortar’ business, you need to consider the fact that you will be investing time.

You need to learn the business. You need to understand the marketplace. You need to find and learn how to use the tools. You need to find a profitable niche. You need to, well, the list goes on and on.

Some internet marketers will try to sell you an ‘internet business in a box’. An instant business that you pay for and they set up and have it ready to go in a matter of minutes. For the most part ( I have to be fair since there may be one out there that really works) the only one to make money in this type of business is the seller of the ‘internet business in a box’. There is always much more to these businesses than meets the eye but unfortunately that part is left out of the sales page.

OK. You now know that there is no such thing as free lunch. So what do you do next. It’s important for you to start from the beginning. Learn all you can about the business and all of the various aspects that you need to understand in order to be a success. This is not impossible but it will take a great deal of effort. Right now over 95% of all internet businesses fail. Don’t let that be you.

We’ll talk again soon. Take a look at our future articles where we’ll begin delving deep into the internet business model and with a bit of luck save you some money, time and a bit of your stomach lining and heart muscle at the same time.
